"A truly welcoming place in a historic location"

Photo around 1910

This mission statement of Barbarossa's founder Martin Miehle is still filled with life every day by great-great-grandson Florian Miehle, his wife Christiane and their daughters Katharina, Klara and Karlotta and the entire Barbarossa team.

We hope that you feel comfortable in our house. In every corner of the hotel you still sense the moving Constance history because of many historic details and decorations. You can easily explore the city on

foot thanks to our perfect location in heart of the old town.  The "Obermarkt" used to be an important trading and transit centre.

Whilst the Middle Ages saw wood and wine being traded here as well as the execution of sentendes for breaking the law. In 1183 emperor Friedrich I., also known as Barbarossa, negotiated the peace contract with the lombardian cities around Milan at the Obermarkt.

Already in 1419, immediately after the Constance council, the Barbarossa was first mentioned as an inn with dance floor. Since 1874 it´s owned by the Miehle family.

At hotel Barbarossa history meets modern comforts. All of our 50 rooms are individually furnished and decorated to suit differnet requierments and tastes, from general leisure guests and families over business travellers to romantic honeymooners.
